Mephibosheth thought of himself as nothing more than a “dead dog.” Yet in 2 Samuel 4 and 9, we see radical kindness pull him out of hiding and sit him at the king’s table. Lame in both feet, living in Lo-debar, he had every reason to believe he was forgotten and defective. But David’s covenant kindness didn’t just restore his land—it restored his identity. At the table, his brokenness was covered. People didn’t see a crippled outcast; they saw a seated, invited, wanted man eating like one of the king’s sons. That table is a picture of Christ.
